1 TAYSEER FULL-TIME QURʾĀN MEMORIZATION PROGRAM INFORMATION PACKAGE 2019 "And We have made the Qur'an easy to remember, but will anyone take heed?" The Qurʾān Surah al-qamar 54:17 It will be said to the companions of the Quran [on the Day of Judgment], Read and increase in status, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status [in Paradise] will be at the last verse you recite. 2 Mission All Muslims aspire to improve the relationship with their Creator by improving the recitation of the Qurʾān. The Tayseer Qurʾān program exists to facilitate the growth of this relationship. Vision Spiritually elevate every Muslim in Knoxville through the recitation of the Qurʾān without Laḥn (mistakes). Introduction The preservation of the Qurʾān was the primary focus and objective of the first community of Islam (under the Khulafāʾ al-rāshidūn) after the departure of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. They were the direct inheritors of revelation given to the Prophet Muhammad (the Qurʾān and Sunnah) and became the means of ensuring the preservation and unity of the ummah through worship as institutionalized by Prophet Muhammad. Indeed, it is We who have sent down the Reminder. And, indeed, We [alone] shall preserve it. Surah al-ḥijr, 15:9 The preservation of the Qurʾān consists of two parts: 1. In its recitation and memorization 2. In its understanding The Tayseer Qurʾān program aims to preserve the recitation and memorization of the Qurʾān in the community by establishing its full-time Qurʾān memorization program.

3 Program Curriculum and Objectives The goal of the program is for students to memorize the Qurʾān in its entirety under the guidance of the instructor. Though this is the apparent and primary objective, the Qurʾān program aims to create students who will excel in their Islamic learning and academic goals as well, insha Allah. 4 Program Timeline The program is tailored for each student to maximize their potential and to challenge themselves without being held back in group-settings. Some students may meet the goals earlier than the average presented below, insha Allah. The following is a general/average timeline for a student who is dedicated, consistent in their attendance while parents provide an out-of-class experience supporting in-class success. Year 3 Year 1 Memorization of 10 ajzāʾ Fiqh: Shahādatayn, Ṭahārah and Ṣalāh Belief: Allah, Angels, Books Arabic Morphology, level 1 Qurʾān Vocabulary, level 1 Year 2 Memorization of 20 ajzāʾ Fiqh: Ṣiyām, Zakāh, Ḥajj Belief: Messengers, the Last Day, Qadr, Life after death Arabic Morphology, level 2 Qurʾān Vocabulary, level 2 Dawrah, Mandatory Qurʾān Review A conceptual understanding of Islam and the Five Pillars Arabic Grammar, an introduction

5 Student Requirements Students must complete the online application form and be accepted in the program by the director of the Qurʾān program. All eligible students must have at least Tier II level of Qurʾān recitation fluency as outlined below students will be evaluated by the Director of the program: Quran Reading Fluency 15 Lines <5 minutes with Tajwīd II application Tajwīd Level II Apply 17 points of letters articulation ل Lightness Apply Rules of Heaviness and Apply Muddat م and ن \ تنوين Ghunan Apply ر ا Students must also be above-average in their academic studies. The general guideline for acceptance in the program are: 1. At least in fourth grade or higher 2. Show an above-average academic achievement 3. Show fluency in Qurʾān recitation/reading (as detailed above) 4. Show ability to memorize independently 5. Be able to respect/follow instructions and understand short-term and long-term goals

6 Program Schedule & Location Classes will be held in the Qurʾān classroom at 706 Mabry Hood Rd, Knoxville, TN. 8 Qurʾān Memorization Method & Expectations Monday to Thursday First Period Students will recite their newly memorized lessons first thing in the morning and will additionally recite all previous lessons of the juz their sabaq is upon. Second Period Students will recite half-a-juz of previous ajzāʾ memorized (will be one juz after memorizing ten ajzāʾ), cycling through their manzil after each completion. Third Period All students will be required to bring their own lunch and refresh themselves for the forth period and their academic studies after Ẓuhr prayer. Fourth Period Fifth Period This period is dedicated to reciting their new sabaq for the next morning with tajwīd and begin memorizing it to be able to recite as much as possible in the next morning. Alternatively, if students have completed their studies for the day, this period may be utilized to further Arabic or Islamic studies content. Students will begin their academic studies under the guidance and observation of the academic guide for this period. Breaks will be given to students as needed as they accomplish specific goals within the period. Fridays First Period Students will recite their newly memorized lessons first thing in the morning and will additionally recite all previous lessons of the juz their sabaq is upon. Breaks will be awarded for individual students as they meet their morning goal. Second Period This period will be dedicated to the Islamic studies curriculum and Arabic morphology along with Qurʾān vocabulary with Hafiz Noman. Alternatively, if Islamic studies and Arabic was taught through the week in the fourth period, this period will be replace with manzil review. Third Period Guided discussions on Islamic history, science and social studies will be covered in this period. Students will be asked to read specific material through the week in preparation for the discussions each week on Friday, insha Allah.

9 The Application Process The deadline for submitting the application is August 1, The application fee is $50 ($100 after 3/31) per applicant/student and must be paid in full with the application form. The application form must be completed electronically at: Full-time Quran School Application Students cannot be admitted into the program without submitting an application. All students must have their applications filled out by their parents or guardian (if student is under 18 years of age). The application fee can be paid online at the end of the application form or by check payable to Tayseer. The program is limited-capacity. In the case we have more students than we can allow, preference will be given to the most qualified students based on the director s decision. An interview with the parents and an assessment with the student will be scheduled after the application has been received and reviewed. Applicants will be notified via of their acceptance or otherwise in the program soon after the applications have been submitted. 11 The Qurʾān Program Team ABOUT ḤĀFIẒ NOMAN ZAHEER Head Instructor and Director of the Tayseer Qurʾān Program Hafiz Noman moved to Houston, Texas in 1995 where he completed his education in aviation maintenance at Westwood College of Aviation and began working in commercial aviation maintenance while serving in the Houston community in various capacities as an Imām, youth mentor and institutionalizing a Qurʾān recitation/memorization program. In 2002, Hafiz Noman relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee where he continued working in commercial aviation maintenance, completing his aviation career as a Supervisor in aircraft maintenance workflow management in During these years, Hafiz Noman has been leading the Muslim Community of Knoxville in various capacities as an Imām, khaṭīb, youth coordinator, community board member, Islamic school teacher, retreat and events director, Ibn Masʿūd Qurʿān school director, and more. In 2009, Hafiz Noman completed the recitation of the Qurʾān applying the seven modes of recitation according to Imām Shāṭibiyy (may Allah bestow His mercy upon him) and received his ijāzah in qiraʾāt by his teacher Mufti Umer Ismail. Thereafter, Hafiz Noman found Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia and furthered his pursuit for more knowledge. He has been appointed the Program Developer and Instructor for the Islamic Essentials online (darulqasim.org/essentials) and High School programs while also working as the Registrar for the institution. Additionally, Hafiz Noman has studied the Shaykh al-hind program and various intermediate program coursework at Darul Qasim. Currently Hafiz Noman is reviewing and furthering his qiraʾāt studies with Mawlana Arif Kamal, head of the Qurʿān recitation program at Darul Qasim, and studying other Islamic sciences with various scholars. Currently, Hafiz Noman resides in Knoxville with his wife and two energetic boys who engage him in tackle football apart from biking, hiking, and watching college football during their leisure. ABOUT DR. NADA IBRAHIM Assistant, Qurʾān Memorization Dr. Nada Ibrahim joined the Muslim Community of Knoxville in She has a BSc in dentistry from Ain Shams university, Egypt. In 2012, she joined the Oral Biology Department in the same university as a teacher assistant and as a master s student. In 2005, Dr. Nada began her journey with Qurʾān memorization and Tajwīd learning in Makkah, Saudi Arabia and continued in Cairo, where she received a certificate from ijāzah-holding teachers to teach Qurʾān in Egypt in In 2017, Dr. Nada completed her Qurʾān memorization while in Knoxville. She had taught many Islamic courses in Saudi Arabia such as Tajwīd and Tafsīr. Dr. Nada is also actively studying Aqīdah, Hadith and other Islamic studies.

12 ABOUT SONYA HADJERIOUA Academic Guide, ELA & Social Studies Specialist Sonya Hadjerioua is currently studying psychology at the University of Tennessee. She was a lead teacher for the Quran Summer Program this past summer teaching art and science to children of various ages. She has also worked in collaboration with Annoor Academy, MSA, and MCK. She has prior experience teaching and working with children of various backgrounds and age ranges in the local community. ABOUT EMAN DAGHESTANI Academic Guide, Math & Science Specialist Eman Daghestani is a licensed Secondary Mathematics Teacher. She graduated from Chatham University in 2011 with a Bachelor s of Science degree in Mathematics. Since then, she has been helping students gain confidence and excel in their mathematical abilities. In 2015, she obtained her Master s degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mrs. Daghestani s teaching experience includes an internship year teaching 8th grade Algebra at West Valley Middle School in 2014 and Annoor Academy of Knoxville Team as the middle school math teacher teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in Mrs. Daghestani s teaching philosophy is to encourage students to learn from their mistakes and failures. She also encourages every student to ask as many questions as possible during and outside of class time.

13 ABOUT GHADA AYESH Qurʾān Program Administrator Ghada Ayesh has been a life long member of the Muslim Community of Knoxville. She has volunteered and worked in the community in multiple aspects. She leads monthly community service projects for the youth and outreach programs for interfaith communities. She has worked for Annoor Academy of Knoxville for 17 years and for the past 2 years has been the Projects Coordinator responsible for organizing school extra curricular activities, managing community outreach involvement and student/family engagement activities. She also currently works with the Knox County Schools through Annoor Academy on the Title I and ELL departments to help strengthen the school s academic programs for the youth. Prior to Projects Coordinator, Sister Ghada was the director of the Annoor Academy ECD department for 15 years as well as the lead teacher for the prekindergarten class. During her time as director, Sister Ghada was part of the administrative team of Annoor Academy and assisted in many of the school procedures. She led and mentored dozens of teachers during her time at Annoor and led teams of 10+ staff members each year. She maintained an outstanding reputation with the TN Department of Education and licensing for the ECD department with a successful renewal rate during her 15 years as director. She served on the accreditation team in 2013 and 2018 granting Annoor Academy an AdvancedEd accreditation and renewal as well as a CISNA accreditation. Her years as director has given her the experience and know how to administer and work with curriculums, maintain student and staff records as well as organize schedules and procedures. Sister Ghada also currently homeschools her daughter as well as assists with Coop classes and is very familiar with the skills needed to foster the growth of children outside the usual classroom setting. Sister Ghada has joined the summer and Fall Qur an programs as the Administrative Assistant in hopes of growing this program to benefit as many youth and adults as possible.
